I am not in a position to give medical advice. But I can submit my opinion.
I don't think Topamax will stop a cycle. It should stop attacks from acting up, again because it blocks the sodium discharge at the neural level.
As for the dose, you should discuss this with your Dr. but it seems that the dose should start at 25g a day up to 200mg a day over a couple of week period.
The only way I can imagine to stop a cycle would be to find an efficient way to stop stop the neural inflammation that started the cycle. Prednisone should be more effective than Topamax to stop a cycle, but Topamax should be better to jam tha attacks than Prednisone.
