I believe I avoided several cycles (3 years no Clusters) by taking Meprobamate.
This is an anti-anxiety drug, but a fairly mild one. I would take 200mg. several
times a day in spring and/or fall each year. Usually I would start feeling the
twinge of cluster atttack starting in. A tightness in my jaw and mild ache in my
jaw and temple. After taking the Mepro for a couple of weeks, and avoiding ANY
alcohol, I would back of off the drug for another week or so - and no headache that
season! I don't know if it was just coincidense or not, but this seemed to work
several times. The years the clusters did break through were devastating with
unbearable multiple attacks daily. Usually lasting only 6 to 8 weeks thank the Lord!
I feel really bad every time I think of all the chronic sufferers out there!
Good luck to you. Try to avoid stress, I believe that is a factor in my attacks.
Also hayfever is absent during Cluster cycles, but present at Spring and Fall every
year with no Clusters. I much prefer the running nose, sneezing, and itchy watery
eyes for several weeks! Take care, Rich
