I started out using the imitrex injections a few years ago. My insurance co. wrote to the neurologist, questioning my need for it, and weather i really had cluster headaches. He wrote back telling them that he was the expert, and they were an approved treatment. That happened about 3 yrs ago, so far nothing more from the ins co.. Since then i've switched to the nasal spray.Its about half the cost, and about 80% as effective. For me it works in about 10 to 15 mins. The injections took 4 to 7 mins for me. The nasal spray is easier to carry and use in public. I find oxygen very effective at aborting a headache, and use it first when i'm at home. i have an rx for the 02, its dirt cheap compared to imitrex, so i'm able to cut down on the imitrex use.
