I agree with what Drummer said. I also add that Oxygen should be a part of everyone's toolkit for aborting cluster attacks, if it works for them. Also, some of us are finding that a new drug, Topamax, is helping prevent cluster attacks.

Bursts of steroids can be effective for episodic cluster patients, but are given as relatively large doses, tapering off over a few days to zero, as in Medrol DosePak.

Verapamil is perhaps the most widely used preventative medication today.

I agree with you regarding Stadol. It is a nasty drug. I use it once in a while though. But then I am chronic. Sometimes I go through a month of abstinance from all medications because nothing is working. Then I get to a point that the pain is making me crazy. I then hide from it with Stadol for a few days if I feel I need to. I am not as tough as some of the folks you will meet on this website.

Is your husband seeing a good neurologist?
