My doctor put me on an MAOI (== MAO) and I ended
up in the hospital for four days with what looked
to the doctors exactly like congestive heart
failure. These drugs are banned in Europe, and
in general the Europeans are less conservative
about drugs than the FDA.
Also, MAOIs have interactions with MANY drugs,
including some that are effective for CH. Even
if the tricyclics are sometimes less effective,
in my opinion (confirmed by several doctors) the
risks of MAOIs greatly outweigh the benefits.
