Prozac is an SSRI, not an MAOI. So, St. John's
wart is **either** an MAOI **or** a Prozac-like
compound, but not both. Also, is what the doctor
said reasonable? If you haven't reacted to the
combination while taking both, are you likely to
react to the combination after stopping one?
In one sense the Dr is correct, because if the
adverse reaction does occur it can be life
threatening. On the other hand, the FDA has been
steadily reducing the number of things that must
be avoided when taking an MAOI. So, I wouldn't
take it, but I also wouldn't endure two weeks of
misery after stopping it.
