They did give him a tranquilizer when he asked for it. The proceduce lasted about 40 minutes (being done to his cervical collar).
He had a second one done last month. This was an "open" MRI, which I understand is not yet available in all areas, but I would certainly ask if it was in your area. This again lasted about 40 - 45 minutes. No tranqulizer necessary this time.
