Basically, it means “full-body high pressure.” For example, you could be put into an airtight container and have someone on the outside double the air pressure in the container from the normal fifteen pounds per square inch to 30 lb./p.s.i. Deep-sea diving is a hyperbaric activity, since the weight of the surrounding water will be greater than 15 lb./p.s.i.
