I would lay my head down in high school, yes. It's all I knew to do without embarrassing myself, and I could physically do it. The headaches were quite mild back then... very low on the pain scale I have seen on your site. Now, however, almost all of my headaches are at the 9 level on your pain scale, and I can only lay still once the pain drops off, which is usually after about two to three hours. When I have a headache, I certainly cannot sit still. It's not possible.
Sorry for the confusion. I only wish I could lay my head down and deal with them now.
