I've just finished reviewing MEDLINE on this issue and found about 10 reports, mostly from Europe, which indicates this is a genuine problem.
A related issue: one report suggested that, for some folks, with increased use/dosing of sumatriptan there is a reduction in the benefit.
If your M.D. doesn't know how to treat rebound, ask your local library to get you a copy of: "Rebound headaches--a review", Au: John S. Warner, M.D.; HEADACHE QUARTERLY 10:3(1999), 207-219. It contains a general diagnostic outline of rebound and suggestions for treatment.
