I, too, am the wife of a sufferer and completely understand what you are going through, watching helplessly as your husband does battle.
As far as the holding the job issue, my husband is self employed and that seems to work quite well for him. When he gets hit, he is able to go "sit it out" in his truck or, if he is working at home, can just take a break until the attack passes. I think there are quite a few self-employed people here - it's kind of a self-preservation technique of sorts.
Mike, my husband, has never been treated for the depression that inevitably comes with CH so I can't really comment on that. I would suggest, however, that you consider changing docs or at least get your husband in to see a neuro. Believe me, after years of frustration and never really ever having found a CH-savvy doc here where we live, (thank God and DJ for this website!) it really WOULD be a night and day difference to find a doc who is up on current CH treatment. Check the Where we Live button at the side for folks who live near to you to see if they can recommend a doc who can help you.
Just so you know, we've had more success treating Mike med free (water, dramamine, oxygen and ice) than we've ever experienced trying the different cluster drugs but that's not an option for everyone.
Please feel free to email me if you need a shoulder.
