I had at least one cluster cycle every year from 1981 to 1994. Then they stopped -- until this summer, when the Beast came back with a vengeance. I noticed various postings on this board about the candida hypothesis and it occurred to me that since about 1993 I had been taking 200 mg of Diflucan (flucanazol) daily for an unrelated condition, and that I was taken off that treatment last year. My neurologist scoffed at the notion that an anti-fungal could have prevented clusters, and prescribed 21 days of graduated prednisone, which ended the cycle quickly (after complete failure with oxygen treatment). But my internist took a "why not?" attitude, given the lack of scientific knowledge about the cause of clusters, and has again put me on 200 mg of Diflucan daily, there having been no adverse side effects from the earlier treatment. We'll see whether the Beast comes back again.
