These attempts to link the onset of CH to a specific event some time in the past look to me somewhat like the ancient chinese horoscopes: The astrologers allow ample time, something like 20 years, for their prophecies to become true. If the event would happen, the seers could claim success, if not, nobody still bothered after such a long time.
