your restatement of the place of "shadows" in the CH scheme is EXACTLY what I see it as being
(read expansion on this, in my response to drummer's post)
as far as the clear cut END of the attacks -
I agree with that also - INCLUDING the feeling of unusual wellbeing when the attacks "releases" - which doesn't last long, but is pronounced
UNTIL AND UNLESS:
I have an unusually long & severe bout - say several weeks with 4-8 VERY intense attacks a day
in those cases, the "beating" i take, combined with fatigue, eliminates the "high" after the attacks , and I'm just run into the ground all the time
