Each medication we take has some risk. One doctor had me on a high dose of prednisone for a long period of time. The only side effect I can be sure I observed was acne on my back and neck and possible weight gain. I would recommend avaiding, if possible, using prednisone on a long-term basis. I have also used short, tapered bursts of prednisone in decreasing dosage of about a 10 day period to break cycles. This seemed to work until I turned chronic a year ago. Personally, the steroid spooked me and I would advise, like Ken, that it be used in short durations along with another longer term med like Verapamil. Good luck.
