Hey Jonathan. I know what your going through. My lover also could not handle the pressure and left a little over a year ago. As hard as it is on us to experience the pain, it's pretty hard on them also.
I know that the pain of loosing someone you care about on top of the physical torture has got to be unbearable. But you have to hold on. I can't begin to presume why this happens, but I know that whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger. You will go on and things will get better. concentrate on trying to find some releif from the physical right now. The emotional will heal in time. I kknow that that is probably hard for you to beleive right now, but I am living proof. He did what he had to do for his own sanity, and I went on. You have to go on and make it.
