I haven’t tried the ice cube yet but I guess it’s a convenient way of delivering cold air to your nasal passages. I have spent several hours (not for one headache) in front of my refrigerator breathing cold air. It takes about 15-20 minutes to get rid of the Cluster but it’s better than an OD of Imitrex.
My problem is that the Refrigerator is 6 feet tall and I’m 6’ 3", so I have to bend my knees just slightly. It gets kind of uncomfortable after awhile but well worth the discomfort. I’m not sure what effect the cold has on my body or why it eliminates the headache, but it does. I can’t see how the ice cube will supply me with enough cold air but like you, I’ll try just about anything.
