THat is almost exactly what happened to my husband, only he had a cavity in the tooth he thought was causing the pain, after having it filled, they thought that because it was so deep it was the tooth still, so they did an emergency root canal, then went on to see an endotontist who re did the root canal 4 more times, and insisted it was not the tooth. Out of desperation, he had the tooth extracted, and the pain has still continued. That was over a year ago. Just to let all of you in case you are thinking the same thing, hmmmm, It was the #3 tooth which is the second from last molar on the top right side. He was able to wiggle it back and forth and the pain would increase and decrease with the movement. HMMMMMM
