Hi Jerry

Recently you mentioned that high quantities of sugar could possibly trigger an attack. My experience is that not only the amount of sugar but also the concentration in the stomach or the gut is essential.

I posted my experience to this board on 8/4/98 but I guess that nearly nobody believes me. I suppose that everybody assumes a simple coincidence. But can it be a coincidence? During more than 5 weeks I have tested it daily. Ingesting even a small amount of sugar between noon and bedtime always triggered at least a shadow headache (15 minutes to 2 hours later). When I succeeded to avoid all kinds of sugar I was totally painfree.

In the beginning I made many mistakes, e.g. I had mashed potatoes containing milk, a sauce prepared with red wine, bread which contained glucose etc. but after three weeks I had learned what I can eat. In the next two weeks I ate intentionally about every second day something containing a little bit of sugar because I wanted to know if the episode still continues. September, 1st was the first day I felt no reaction to the sugar. Since then I can eat or drink whatever I want without any consequences.

Your theory of drinking a lot of water could actually be a confirmation of my experience because the water lowers the concentration of the sugar which means that the intake rate in the gut is low too.

If you want to know more about my experiences, feel free to contact me by email.

All the best on your way to get painfree.

Urs
