Being the board agnostic, I don't feel qualified to even try to explain anything about the Man upstairs.
But I know a bit (from experience) about challenges, fear and survival. Rule Number 1 - You never beat anything unless you believe you can.
Rule Number 2 - There's no point in worrying about the unknown, because the odds of it NOT happening are just as good as the odds of it happening.
I've got a good friend here at ch.com who received a virtual death sentence from the 'experts', by which I mean very qualified doctors. They were so sure, after all the tests, lab results, etc., that she almost gave up hope. Figured the Man had decided she'd been in this plane of existance long enough and that it was time for her to come live with Him. But there was a tiny spark of desire to stay here and continue helping others, and a big fire of doubt about the doctor's omniscience. So she went through with the procedures and guess what? Wasn't nearly as bad as the 'experts' had thought.
I have no intention of ever 'slipping the surly bonds of earth'. Be it clusters, nut bb's or anything else, I'm going kicking and screaming and fighting all the way.
Either that, or I'll get my wish....being shot in bed by the jealous husband of a 27 year old when I'm 92.
