We used to play dodge ball in a large basement room - also Red Rover.
One teacher even let us play Strip Poker. We girls wore every piece of junk jewelry we could scrounge so we'd have plenty stuff to take off.
Of course, we could have a spelling bee! Or play blackboard games. Or 20 Questions.
