Naw, Hub - you're misinformed.....the horse manure steam ceremony is actually funded by our government as part of the NAFTA agreement. We have these warm Chinook winds come in over our Rockies every once and awhile in the winter. They usually blow in a south easterly direction...towards Indiana, actually. See, our horses are so smart they know just where to place their...um...piles of product so that the winds will catch them just right and the resulting aroma can waft towards Shelbyville. It's quite a science actually, our horses have been practising this for generations.
As far as our Groundhog Day Ceremony, we actually had a very sad event last year. Our original Wiarton Willie went to that happy place and today marked the first appearance of Wee Willie in Wiarton as his successor. Rumour has it there is an understudy warming up in the wings...just in case this Willie bites the big green weenie too. We even had a ceremony for Old Willie last year, open casket with a little carrot placed ever so gently on his little tummy between his little paws. However, I noticed in the paper today that the body in that photo MAY have been an imposter.....and now they're calling the whole scene Williegate. [this is, I'm quite embarassed to admit, actually TRUE, folks, it's in our morning paper this morning. Yet another government funded project, no doubt.]
So, you see, Hub - not everything you hear about our Canadian customs is precise. Wait till you hear what we do with our buffalo chips at Stampede time!!! LOL
:^D
