Hi!. I'm also new to this reassuring site. I've always called my shadows "Rumbles" because they are so ominous. Generally they are in the same place as the CH's (similar to a very low Kip rating) but somehow include a general, but very definate and easily identifiable, "strange" feeling.

Usually a shadow is followed by the Beast after a few minutes or even a few hours, but not always. I once (thankfully?)fought shadows for a full six months without a full dose of the Beast. Didn't do anything for my general wellbeing or productivity and a few months later I had a full dose of the Beast anyway.

Made me think that maybe it was better to tackle the beast for a few months and get it over with but then I'm not sure that I'm THAT brave!
