Bob, is it possible that CH sufferers could be affected differently by serotonin levels in the brain - say too much acts as a trigger in some and too little in others?
I go for your thought that the triptans attach to the 5HT receptors on the neurons. As less or none of the chemical is released, a calming effect due to fewer impulses are transmitted within the brain.
I don't think you should give up on seretonin yet Bob. My theory requires an unknown chemical messenger to act as the catalyst in the circadian rhythm mechanism. Who knows, maybe this is where 5HT comes in.
