Hi
My hubby has had trouble and little relief with Imitrex - it's so costly, too. He is getting big relief from the 0xygen and we, too, couldn't find a doctor to prescribe it. We live in Alberta, Canada so we must have a prescription from a doctor to get one. Very frustrating. We happened to have a tank in our shop already so, after checking with Poison Control, we have been assured it is safe to use and it is helping him abort the attacks.
Also, drinking lots of water is helping him as is taking Gravol at nite (to avert the middle of the night and first thing in the morning attacks). It prevents the body from going into the REM phase of sleep, thus averting the waking up headache - for him. I don't know if it will work for anyone else, but worth a shot. Granted, you are not getting the REM sleep that you need but my husband thinks being a little tired is like winning the lottery compared to going through a CH.
Good luck!
Margi
