Todd and Ed have given you good advice. Many people are really afraid of Prednisone because it is a powerful drug, and some can't tolerate it at all. However, ask your doctor about the safety of it and whether the dosage might be adjusted for your particular case. I took 40 mg daily for 7 days, 20 mg daily for 7 days, and 10 mg daily for 7 days with no adverse side effects. People with Giant Cell Arteritis have to take as much as 60 mg a day for a period of time (I forget how long)and some such as my sister tolerate it very well. After 14 months she has gradually lowered her daily dosage to 15 mg and continues to improve. There are some adverse side effects but in her particular case it was a question of preserving her life and/or her eyesight. It all depends on the person and your doctor is the best one to decide what you need.
