Actually, it did hurt a bit when she hit this one goofy little nerve in my middle finger. I let out a number six scream and she yanked it right out. The first time I tried acupuncture (five years ago)one treatment stopped the cycle dead in its tracks and I didn't have another headache for over a year...By far the longest I had ever gone without one.
But, this time, after three treatments I have had no result at all that I can be certain of other than being shorter in the pockets. It was a different doctor this time and she didn't do the finger thing. But, she gave me Chinese herbs and they did seem to lessen the severities, if that's a word. At least, I suspect it was the herbs.
So far, I have found no explanation why acupuncture works for some and not for others or why it might work one time and not the next.
