The mask needs to be one with one-way valves in it so that all off the oxygen you are breathing in is coming from the accumulator bag. When you inhale, there should be a whoosh sound from the bag, and it should pretty much empty out, at least mine does. Unless you have a really big bag or take really small breaths, that is. My mask has three one-way valves in it, two on the sides of the mask that let the air out when I exhale, and one right under my nose that prevents my exhale from going into the bag. In other words, one works in the opposite direction from the other two. Hope this helps.
