Yes, butalbital is one of the worst drugs when it comes to headaches. It should not be taken more than once or twice a week or you will almost certainly develope a near constant headache. Stop using it so much (easier said than done, I know).
Amerge is much safer to use frequently when it comes to avoiding headaches. It is, however, a new drug...and not as well studied. Amerge is much longer acting than Imitrex...and has a slightly longer time till onset. But, since it lasts longer, it is supposed to reduce the number of rebound headaches.
Frankly, I like almost any kind of pain medication besides the butalbital. I will not perscribe it for my patients with headaches...as I think it causes more headaches in the long run. Look for something else.
