Once, when I was starting a CH attack at the dentist's office, we tried an experiment. My attack usually starts in the upper gumline and teeth. From here the pain moves quickly to the temple, eye, etc. The dentist experimented in aborting the attack by injecting several rounds of lidocaine on this side of my gums.
There was the usual numbness as a result, but NO relief of the CH, which drove me from the dentist's chair. This was the same man who referred me to my first neurologist, and I am grateful for his help.
But as you all say, forget the narcotics. They generally just don't work against CH.
