Xanax is a good med for this purpose: it goes to work quickly (about 20-min) and will last as long as the usual CH; can be repeated, if your anxiety continues, as long as you don't treat them like peanuts.
The regularity of CH attacks can easily induce what is termed, "anticipatory anxiety"--just what it says: we fear and are waiting for the next attack and this leads to anxiety. Like the person who hates dentists and works up a load of fear in the days before their appointment.
Unfortunately, it has the effect of increasing the perceived pain. This is why using some form of relaxation therapy is useful: doesn't prevent CH but can make coping better.
