Hey Stephen. Sure, sinusitis was my first diagnosis too but after xrays and other treatment it turned out to be clusters.
If you have been following the candida/yeast connection theory and like the sounds of it then it wouldn't be too difficult to imagine a fungal infection in the cavernous sinus is creating the cluster pain reaction.
