I've been on oxygen for the last 13 years. It's my buddy and my pal. I prefer a face mask as opposed to a nasel cannula, but only because it's easier to do what I do with it. E tamks aren't cheap, so I take a huge breath and turn off the regulator and exhale. Turn it back on and do it again until the pain subsides. Saves a lot of oxygen that way. I keep on doing this for a short while AFTER the pain subsides only to give it a little extra bit of help so the headache doesn't come back. I'd say 10 to 15 mins. is usually sufficient. Do not go to sleep with it on, O.K. the reasons are listed to the left side of this page under: Ask Doc Greg. He explains why oxygen can harm your lungs if it's used too long or at too high a flow. Good luck, Linda Howell
