Some legal strategy:
Because they may charge you for pounding him (as opposed to stopping him) -- and this is the law to prevent vigilatneism of the sort of, let's say, shooting him in the back as he is running away -- you probably should claim that you were trying to apprehend the thief who was taking your stuff, which is legal, but you didn't feel safe not knowing that he didn't have a gun, knife, or in light of the Diallo verdict, a wallet, and that you DID use reasonable force and NOT excessive force in apprehending him AND remaining safe.
Just a suggestion. Because we both know that none of the hits were do to being enraged and they all were thrown to maintain your safety. Right? ;-)
