When you say "some people are really not able to
come off larger doses of prednisone without their
headaches returning," do you mean after the episode
is over? I took two tapers of prednisone during
my 1 month episode in August. Each taper started
at 100 mg (5 pills) for 2 days, then 4 pills for
2 days, etc., down to 1 pill. By waiting till
the headaches got really bad, I was able to cover
the whole episode. BUT--2 weeks after the episode
was over and I was headache free, the headaches
returned, though in a greatly diminished form--only
mild to moderate instead of terrible. So, I
went on another taper, this time 60 mg for 5 days,
then 50 for 5 days, etc., down to 20 mg for 1
day, then 19 mg, etc. I'm still not sure what's
happening. The headaches went away during the
taper, then started coming back, now may be
diminishing in frequency. I don't know. Do you
think this could be because of the prednisone?
I've taken it for 3 or 4 previous episodes, and
this has never happened before. I am seeing a specialist
in a few days, but I have little hope that he'll
have any great insights.
