I have had CH for 13 years now and until Imitrex came out about 6 or 7 years ago I found nothing that aborted the headache. I have tried ergotamines, oxygen, percocet, fiorinal 3(a sedative w/codeine), and nothing worked. A shot of demorrhal at the ER was effective, but not too practical. The Imitrex nasal spray doesn't work for me and the pills are too slow. The injection, and I usually can take half a dose, works in about 10 minutes if I catch it early enough. The one thing I have realized after finding this site is that everybody has had different results with different treatments. All I can suggest is that your husband finds a dr. that is willing to let him try different treatments until he finds what works best for him. Best of luck for the two of you!
