It has to do with womens hosiery. Mountain women
in particular. It is used to strain the yeild of
the still. All the resulting waste (potato peals,
corn husks, etc.) is then collected , dried and
rolled in cigarette paper. The butts are picked
up and eaten by crows who, while choking to death,
make a "hoos-yer- ho-osure" sound. The village
people pick up the rythem in a dance, resulting
in Indiana being known as the Hoosier state.
