In all my years of CH I have never had a "rather" painful one. All of mine are "really" or "very" painful.
Have you taken the Cluster quiz on the links to the left. It sounds like you and your friend might not have Clusters. "Rather" painful headaches are usually associated with migraines or nutsinabind NOT Clusters.
I hope you find help somewhere else.
