G'Morning. I've been in a Hellish cycle that had really had me down. On Feb. 29th, I was supposed to see a neuro, hopefully to start Verapamil. Well, they scheduled me with the wrong doc, so had to reschedule me with the "right" one. Too bad that I had to wait a month. As Fate would have it, I was changing jobs, and Feb.29th was the last day of my insurance coverage until May 1. I finally got in to see the "right" neuro (at $186.00, thank you very much) and he did recommend Verapamil, 120mg, 3X/day. Since I had been getting hit hard every night, all night, he gave me 2 samples of Amerge, to take before bed. I did, and got 2 good nights sleep. The 3rd night sucked, so I called the doc/pharmacy about getting some more. They could get me 3 pills for 56 dollars! I said I can't, and hoped that the Verapamil would kick in. It hasn't. It seems that it makes the HAs less responsive to Oxygen, too.
SO..I called the doc, explained my sad story, and we began the old prednisone count-down again. BUT, he gave (GAVE!!!) me 10 more Amerge tabs. It has really been a godsend for me. And I will be able to enjoy my annual Spring Turkey Hunt this weekend, without fear of having to spend it in the back of the truck, as I did once a few years ago. Since I am new to the use of Amerge, and haven't done my homework very well, I have a question...do the insurance companies limit the amount and frequency of the drug that we can have prescribed, as they do Imitrex??? Thanks.
