Maybe I was just lucky. I've only been to the emergency room twice during the many years of CH.
The first time I got medication for a supposed ear infection. Since this was 17 years ago I didn't doubt the diagnosis until I found the medications did not stop the pain.
Last year, however, I knew what my problem was. When I signed in I told the clerk I had cluster headache. As soon as I saw a doctor I told him that I needed an Imitex injection. I had never had this before, but all the literature touted it so I thought - what harm can it do to ask.
I got the shot and was skipping out to my car feeling great within 5 minutes.
This may not be the answer for everyone though. I later learned I needed an MRI, carotid artery scan, blood work, echocardiogram, and chest x-ray to determine if Imitrex was safe for me. If you know you can take Imitrex, ask for it. You might get lucky the way I did.
