I was put on Amerge back in November and used 2.5mg 2x a day, as a preventative. It worked well, and I only got breakthrough HAs close to my next dose. When I came off the meds, I experienced lots of shadows for about 10 days, but nothing serious.
This cycle started as shadows the beginning of March, but I really didn't get too many bad ones for the next couple of weeks. Then they hit bad, and then I went on Amerge, but used only half the dosage this time. So far no breakthroughs. But I may be coming out of this cycle.
Bottom line, Amerge has worked for me. I couldn't tolerate Imitrex and it really did nothing for me.
I've noticed no real side effects.
