Yes I am in the UK, Lancashire.
I have a friend, my hairdresser in fact and he did the mushrooms some years ago along with a lot of other stuff (no he's not a clusterhead !!).
He has offered to take me out to pick a stock of them when the time is right, apparently they grow near to where he lives, which is good.
I hope to get as much as I can, hence the reason for asking about preserving.
Thanks for the time you took to reply, I will do some research and look at the book you suggested.
Lets hope they work for me, if not then I'll just get high on them !!!!
Either way I wont be leaving the board.
