I just found this message board and I have been reading it for about 2 hours trying to find some new ideas to suggest for my suffering CH husband. I have watched him suffer for 10 years now... bouts usually begin in the fall and at first lasted a couple months and have been getting longer each year. Last time they started they lasted 15 months. Well, the bout started again about 6 weeks ago. He has 6 excrutiating headaches in 24 hours. Over the years he has tried just about all the usual CH treatments and NOTHING has worked. He is giving up hope and since the last bout lasted so long and if the trend continues, he is anticipating a bout even longer than 15 months this time. He has told me for the first time that he is now having some pretty terrible thoughts and that scares me. Being his wife, and a nurse, I want so badly to find him some help. We are going to contact the Diamond Headache Clinic to ask what they will try that hasn't already been proven to him ineffective. His MD is out of town for a few more days at least. We're hoping he will be open to the request of a referral to the Diamond Clinic. The pain with each headache last year was about a 7 on a 0-10 scale. This year he says it is about 9.50 and I've seen him in the middle of those...I can't imagine how he can live with the pain, then knowing that the pain will be back about every 3-4 hours like clockwork.
