I don't like guns. I'm very afraid of knives, also. I'm mildly opposed to 500 lb. bombs, and I'm terrified at the thought of falling from a great height. My wife is to blame. She insists I keep a gun in our bedroom closet because she would rather that anyone crazy enough to break in our house at night be shot dead instead of letting him do what he has in mind for us. I agreed to get a gun because I'm not trained in the martial arts or know enough psychology to talk a maniac out of his plans to kill us. I have never fired my revolver, but I know how. My wife carries a small pistol in her purse, and she knows how to use it. She doesn't like guns, either, but she would fire it if the guy who once stalked her ever tried to act out his fantasies. I think most people don't like guns and violence, or knives and violence, or even bombs and violence. But, so I've been told, we live in a violent world where some people don't keep their guns in their closets. It would be nice to live in a world where there are no guns, but then, that place would either be Shangri-la or a dictatorship. I wish we could choose.
