In November, after a couple of weeks of torture, my doc started me on Amerge 2.5 twice a day as a preventative. Most of the time it worked well, though I did have breakthrough HAs, they were always close to the next dosage and were mostly mild. When I went off, I had shadows for about 10 days, then nothing.
I started my current cycle in March and because it was mild for awhile, I didn't go on the Amerge until almost 4 weeks ago. The last day before I started back on the Amerge I had three HAs, one was a Kip 4, the next Kip 6, and the one at 3AM was a 10 plus!!! I started back the next day, only this time I split the pills in half, basically taking only 2.5mg the entire 24hours. I haven't had one HA since.
I definitely think the Amerge shortens the cycle, and it has helped me tremendously. The only thing I noticed when coming off the Amerge is that I seem to shadow for a week or so, so this time I've weaned myself gradually.
