But now that you have given me a sample of Garth Brooks' "poetry," my own, biased opinion-rating is that it is drivel, whether written by him or Shakespeare. I admit to being a novice at poetry, but here is what Robert Frost says: "Like a piece of ice on a hot stove the poem must ride on its own melting." I think Robert Frost was one of the great poets of the twentieth century. I also like Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey," a lot.
None of this banter has anything to do with Carl's post or my response. I was simply trying to voice my biased opinion, hoping to help. Now I'll shut the fuck up, but would welcome a discussion of poetry or music or philosophy in another venue. :-)
