I say Elavil cause it's easier to spell than amitrip.....(same stuff though). The stuff is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) usually used for depression. It keeps the serotonin from being reabsorbed by the neuron that fired it into the synapse. Deb's right about taking it before bed because it will make you groggy as heck. I took 50 mg at bed time and still could hardly get up in the morning. Reduced to 25mg which was better but didn't help my CH (actually I only took it for a couple of days and quit because of the groggy feeling). I know a guy that was chronic. Tried everything. Finally went to Elavil and hasn't had a HA in years. Swears by the stuff. I've heard others say it was no help. Best of luck to you. At least you should get some good sleep at night.
