I have successfully taken lithium, but only through one cluster, so I am certainly not an expert. At the first headache my neurologist put me on 80mg. of predisone and 200mg of lithium twice a day. After two weeks, when we thought the lithium was going full force, we decreased the prednisone, then after 8 weeks, when my cycle is usually over, we gradully decreased the lithium. First time in 21 years of cluster headaches that I was actually able to function half-way normal during an episode. Hope this helps. Good luck.
