Anyone have luck with Atenolol?

My doc just prescribed Atenolol. Its a beta blocker and used as a preventitive. I'm suppose to take 50mg
a day. Anybody ever use this and does it work as good as Verapamil? My doc says he has been prescribing this and has had good results with other male patients.
