in answer to your question, yes he was in a cycle, however he is on the last part of the cycle. In other words he didn't have one that night. I've read more on sleeping and I think that "fragmented sleep" just means that for example: they asked him the next morning how long he felt he had slept, my hubby said 1 1/2 hrs, and the technician said less than that! He never got to REM sleep, which means he didn't get the sleep he needed to rejuvinate.
